FINANCIAL

  • A PATIENT UNABLE TO WORK MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR TEMPORARY DISABILITY. Speak to the hospital social worker AND the county social worker - they likely know resources in your area. (You could also try asking at whatever place the patient is  getting treatments.)
  • INSURANCE -  talk to the hospital's social worker and/or your county's social services department, to see what help might be available to him, and perhaps other benefits for your family.
  • RESOURCES- The social worker has sources and can send out the referrals your going to need you can do searches as well to find out what other resources there are out there.
  • POSSIBLE RESOURCES www.state.ok.us   Look for departments such as Health & Human Services, Social Services, Family Programs, etc.
  • INFORMATION ON FINANCIAL RESOURCES FOR PEOPLE WITH CANCER.
  • NATIONAL COALITION FOR CANCER SURVIVORSHIP  Under "cancer related info" there are sub-categories such as  cancer resources & links, general resources, etc. Along the left is a link for Financial Issues, might be helpful.
  • CANCER FUND OF AMERICA  has good information on it.
  • THE PATIENT ADVOCATE FOUNDATION has a state-by-state directory of financial resources. The foundation also has a program for "co-pay relief" (if your co-pay is, say, 20 percent really 20 percent of a $200,000 hospital bill is a lot of money). Since many financial assistance programs are for one specific illness, it's worth searching around on the Internet.

RIDES- The local chapter of the American Cancer Society www.cancer.org often have volunteers who will drive patients to appointments & respite care.
The ROAD TO RECOVERY program  provides transportation for cancer patients to and from radiation and chemotherapy treatments in the Tulsa metropolitan area.

NUTRITION AND CANCER
Facilities that treat cancer patients  may offer patients an early nutrition assessment and meal plan by a registered nutritionist  to sure the patient gets the nutrition they need and deserve.   Certain foods can make treatments more
successful by helping the medications do their job even better, and/or reduce the side effects of the treatments.
