EXPIRED COUPONS CAN HELP FEED HUNGRY LITTLE TUMMIES!

FACT: Manufacturer's grocery coupons are accepted by overseas
military commissaries
for up to six months past their printed expiration date?

Living on a overseas military base there are few jobs available for spouses.
Many families end up as "one income" families and the strain on finances becomes
a real challenge with the higher cost of living.

An expired coupon may seem worthless to you but it can make a big difference
in helping overseas military families make ends meet every month. Your coupons
can help to keep our overseas military families from going hungry by stretching
the food budget.

Don't you agree that what to feed the kids until payday is something
that our military personnel should NEVER have to worry about?

SAVING THE SUNDAY PAPER
COUPON INSERTS FROM THE RECYCLE BIN
These are invaluable for military families living on base.

Non-expired coupons can be used to help families
on U.S. Military bases
(such as Ft. Sill and Vance Air Force Base). When a parent is deployed and the other left
behind to make ends meet, it is  important that every
dollar is stretched as far as possible.
You really can help make a difference by sharing coupons.

Oklahoma American Veterans News (OAVN) has compiled an up-to-date list of the military
bases that would like to have coupons
. We will share that as soon as we hear back
from all of the bases. Until that time you may wish to send them to OAVN  where they
will be sent on to the bases that have confirmed their interest.

The military bases are also happy to accept all current coupons you won't be using.

As of March 6, 2010- $14,254.40 total clipped coupons being
sent on, after just starting on Feb 1st!
We are off to a great start. THANK YOU FOR
BEING A PART OF THIS!!!!

Let's show the world what we can do, together. Join us by sending in your coupons
or mail them yourself and e-mail us the total....together let's raise the above number
as high as we can get it!

If you would like to mail them direct to the military base, start: here

Megan and Bryan clipping coupons to help others.

WHY SHOULD COUPONS BE NO MORE THAN 6 WEEKS PAST THE EXPIRATION DATE?
Coupons should be no more than 6 weeks expired to allow for the time it takes them to be received and distributed at the overseas military base.

CAN I SEND THEM TO THE BASE ON MY OWN? Of course!  Click here to find out how before mailing coupons and don't forget the customs form at the post office. Please  e-mail us your total so we show how much we have done together!!

Many of the addresses of overseas military listed on forums and websites, as needing coupons are outdated. Sadly, many find their coupons returned stamped "APO/FPO closed". One just notified us that their address has recently changed from what is posted on the internet.

Another base, overwhelmed with coupons, after their address was posted on the internet, has asked that no more be sent to them for awhile. They won't be able to use but a small amount of what they have received, yet there are other bases needing coupons  who aren't getting any.

HOW CAN I  BE ASSURED THAT COUPONS GO TO A BASE THAT WILL USE THEM?
Oklahoma American Veterans News (OAVN) has spent several weeks creating, and will maintain, an updated list of military bases that need coupons. T
he volunteers at Oklahoma American Veterans News (OAVN) can mail your expired coupons, for you or you can mail them there yourself.

I THINK I'D RATHER HAVE OAVN SEND THE EXPIRED COUPONS. CAN I ALSO  SEND OAVN UNEXPIRED COUPONS? Yes. Unexpired coupons you send to OAVN can be used to benefit both the families living on U.S. military bases whose loved ones may have been deployed, hospitalized Veterans and others who might need a helping hand. (You will find addresses for military bases in the US that the bottom of this page so you can send your non-expired coupons.)

SHOULD WE CUT OUT THE COUPONS? It is most helpful for you to clip them close, saving space in the package, allowing more to be sent at a time, thus saving postage.  It also saves time and they get mailed out sooner if they are cut out and ready to go when we receive them.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO BE A PART OF HELPING OUR MILITARY FAMILIES?

  • Don't throw away (or put into the recycle bin) the Sunday paper coupon inserts.
  • Share with family, co-workers, neighbors, friends at church about the project (or send them the link to this web page)
  • Send your coupons to OAVN to have all the work done for you. OAVN has confirmed addresses and will divide the coupons between food and non-food, tally the amount take them to the post office, fill out the customs forms and get them sent. Enclosing $1 or two to help with mailing costs is very much appreciated, since we are sending to several different places!
  • Some say they cannot afford to give a dollar to help towards postage but are saving pennies for postage. We think it is an excellent idea! You find them on the sidewalk, in couches or anywhere. Those pennies from heaven can help to get the coupons to the military bases.

Businesses offering discounts to Veterans are invited to contact Oklahoma American Veterans News about sharing their information with Veterans during the week. HUNGRY LITTLE TUMMIES-The wife of a military officer who taught school while stationed overseas, kept a pantry to feed American soldiers children, who often came to school hungry. Although struggling to get by, these families can't get food stamps to help make ends meet, while they are living overseas. Here is one way that we can all help, even if our own money is tight. Expired Coupon Project. BANANAS AND RAISINS FOR VETERANS (ongoing project) The night before lab work, Veterans may be required to fast, which can leave them shaky and weak the next day. A small box of raisins or a banana can help until they can have a meal. When possible, OAVN likes to provide bananas and raisins at the Ernest Childers Veterans Clinic. OAVN volunteers will pass these out when they have the funds. Last year volunteers were able to do thisfive mornings during the year. SOCKS- a much requested item for hospitalized Veterans are socks. We are currently trying to locate a supplier who can help us by providing a discount. DOT'S CHRISTMAS STORE will begin to re-stock, starting in November so that hospitalized Veterans, who cannot go shopping themselves, have a Christmas gift to give loved ones. This is a fun project because no one is asked to go out and spend money. OAVN STRETCHES EVERY DOLLAR YOU DONATE In the fall of 2009, OAVN made the decision to begin contacting past donors by mail, saving on phone and office expenses and allowing donations to go directly to our worthwhile programs.OAVN volunteers have a sincere desire to help our Veterans having found Veterans to be one of the most gracious and appreciative groups. FRUIT- After fasting all night before having tests run at the VA outreach clinic, many Veterans need a little something to help with the weakness. Fruit is purchased at wholesale prices, to ensure that your donation is stretched, as far as possible. DISCOUNTS FOR VETERANS- Providing a Veterans discount can mean repeat customers, for your business, by those who might not have heard of and/or visited your business before. HOSPITALIZED VETERANS Some veterans enter the hospital with nothing-- not even a toothbrush. Others are there for so long the items, such as shaving cream or deodorant that they brought with them, has run out. OAVN EXPIRED COUPON PROJECT is a new project we are launching. You may find it easier to use paypal and have volunteers purchase items for you. WHERE YOUR DONATION GOES: Your financial support helps with veterans needs throughout the year,as well as the "Christmas For the Kids" program, for local less fortunate children. For more than twenty years, this program has been helping kids with such things as toys and clothes. OAVN STRETCHES EVERY DOLLAR YOU DONATE In the fall of 2009, OAVN made the decision to contact past donors by mail, saving on phone and office expenses and allowing donations go directly to our worthwhile programs. No money is paid in salaries. OAVN volunteers have a sincere desire to help our Veterans. BUSINESSES HONORING VETERANS Veterans appreciate discounts but even more, they value the support shown by businesses in providing a "Veteran's Discount." This discount can mean repeat customers, for your business, by those Veterans who might not have heard of and/or visited your business before. Advertising in traditional ways, in order to reach Veterans with a discount, can be expensive. Door flyers can be a waste of both time and your advertising dollar when there is no way of knowing if anyone living in the home is a Veteran. In the past, businesses might advertise by offering a discount in a coupon book. In these changing economic times, it can be harder for people to come up with money to purchase a book, in order to receive the discount. During SALUTE TO HOSPITALIZED VETERANS WEEK, OAVN volunteers gave out discount coupons provided by sponsors. Several of the businesses have told us they were pleased at the business generated, from the distribution of those discount coupons! GET YOUR DISCOUNTS DIRECTLY INTO THE HANDS OF VETERANS CONTACT US now to have your business included.Your coupons, reward cards or other discounts can be handed out to Veterans, without you having to hire anyone to do it. Please bookmark this site and return often. You will find a small sample of some of the letters from organizations we have helped under the "Testimonials" tab. To the men and women who have made huge sacrifices to defend our country: We sincerely appreciate your service to our country. It is our desire that no veteran, from any war, ever feels forgotten. Oklahoma American Veterans News is here and ready to help. In addition to the current projects we are working on (phone cards, fruit and care items ) OAVN is helping Veterans with: DISCOUNTS FOR VETERANS- We are working to compile a comprehensive list of Veterans discounts. (See link on left side of page.) Some discounts aren't advertised and some businesses just haven't thought to give one, yet offering a Veterans discount can help bring them new customers. (HINT: Always ask a business if they offer one. If you find one, please share it with us. ) POPCORN- commercial popcorn machine OAVN recently donated to the VA clinic in Tulsa. THE CHRISTMAS STORE for hospitalized Veterans who are not able to shop for their loved ones. MAKING FINANCIAL DONATIONS Green Country Thank you for helping Oklahoma American Veterans News which allows us to help others. You may prefer to make a financial donation online, to help purchase the items currently needed.THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF OTHERS! In 1988, Henry Hall, Phil Adair and Olin Harris, themselves veterans, realized the need and started Oklahoma American Veterans News to help others, doing most of the work themselves.Over the years, (having seen OAVN's track record with any project they gotten involved with) many of us asked Mr. Hall to help us on other projects besides those just for vets. Helping needy children, abused women, and providing food baskets for the hungry were just a few that he quietly stepped up and quickly made a success. Reading through the stacks of letters of appreciation and newspaper clippings about Oklahoma American Veterans News, while building this website, was overwhelming. Having been mentored in volunteering by Mr. and Mrs. Hall since the 1980s I have absolutely no idea, as the webmaster, how to show a good sampling of the many thank you letters they have in their files. Henry Hall has received letters of appreciation for Oklahoma American Veterans News from the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Department of Human Services, Department of Veterans Affairs, Salvation Army, Tulsa Senior Services, United Methodist Cooperatives Ministries, Family and Children's Services, Action Inc....and the list goes on and on...and on! A Winning Team
